  • WORK IN PROGRESS The Tamaqua Sustainability Project (TSP) is an emerging experimental architecture hub with a mission to spread ecological consciousness by providing education and inspiration for living in self-sufficient, resilient, and creative ways.

In addition to helping develop the vision for the site, I am assisting with construction of Bill's Burrow, the first off-grid, solar-passive, 'Earthship'-style home on the site. The structure uses natural and reclaimed materials.

The development of the 18-acre site will follow permaculture principles.

As a Project Coordinator with TSP, I conceived of, co-organized, and led a 12-person, weekend-long educational construction workshop focused on building walls with glass bottle bricks.

Participants learned how to clean, cut, assemble, and install bottle bricks.

Bill's Burrow utilizes various techniques to passively heat and cool the structure, including solar-oriented windows, large internal thermal masses, and underground cooling tubes.
